General Support: Broken pictures

I can't seem to get this to work. My thumbnails and pictures do not show up. When i click to view the url from which the picture is requested it's in the wrong path. it says /this/path/picture.jpg instead of /this/is/the/path/picture.jpg.
I'm not sure why this is doing it. I've left the orignal installtion the same. I did do the "AvailableImageOutputFormats Error" fix to get this far. Any help is much appreciated. O yeah i've checked the file permissions and everyting is on 755.

after looking at the issues more from the manage tab in the admin page, it seems that the picutres im uploading are actually the file path again so the path looks like /a/b/a/b/pic.jpg. However the file structure on the website host looks correct.
