    Does your server have safe_mode enabled? I'm guessing that's why your folders are not being CHMODed to 0777 because that is what is written in the code. There is a workaround for safe_mode enabled servers using an FTP login coded into the latest SVN (newer than the default download but not quite ready for public release). Let us know if safe_mode is enabled and I can try to get you the updated code.
