I know this has been asked for before, but would it be possible to use images inside Plogger with images hosted at 'flickr.com' like sites? It's getting quite a costly matter now that my bandwidth is exceeded every month because of all the images on my site ... ;) I know there is this thing called API and it should be possible to achieve this.
I also know that Mike hasn't got the time to add new features on his own. And I'm afraid I'm not good at php at all. But development seems to be on hold for a long time now, and I think that's a shame. I have to be honest and admit that I have been looking to other galleries for that reason, but just can't find a better one. I just added Plogger to the WordPress Wiki list of possible galleries, just in the hope that some developer at WordPress will notice it. I somehow feel that Plogger is not far from almost being the perfect (simple but powerfull) gallery, but it just doesn't get finished :(......
I hear you man. You are right, development is stalled - I am working two jobs right now and life is crazy. I barely have time to track the forums. I am working on a new Plogger website and will be searching for a developer who would like to take over the programming lead on the project. I really wish I had more time to work on this thing.
What do you think is missing in order to make the gallery 'Perfect'?
Mike: What do you think is missing in order to make the gallery 'Perfect'?
Hello Mike. Good question, and because I've been absent for some days I have to think hard about what my suggestions would have been the moment I started that topic :)... Which is proof of what I mean: Plogger is really good, I mean that! And I know, life can be very busy, so I'm not pressing anyone, but Plogger should not be forgotten.
Improvements? In contrast to Sterex I don't feel much for things like 'most viewed' or 'most rated'. Even comments I feel are not necessary. The things I stumble upon are born from using the gallery for over a longer period of time and are very personal.
1. What I mentioned before, the option of adding images to the gallery from a remote server. Another website or perhaps Flickr? Just in case you wanted to add a 1000 images at once :)... 2. I'm using Thickbox myself do display single images (http://www.spoenk.nl/fotografie/vogels/kauwen) and sometimes I would want to be able to navigate the rest of the images of a certain album from within that one Thickbox window (using a left en right arrow displayed over the images). I've seen sites using this, but I've not been able to do it myself. 3. Within that Thickbox window I also would whish to have the option of adding that image to a kind of 'selection' would could be used for sending to someone else (e-card? Kent has some ideas on this) or to me, perhaps for ordering images. The option 'add for download' is already available, so perhaps this wouldn't be too hard to add??? 4. A page on the plogger site for 'extensions' or 'plugins'. This could encourage people to write these things and keep the software alive... 5. A good WordPress plugin. I don't need it myself, but it would make Plogger known among more people. 6. Text-links perhaps. There already is a way to do this. but it could be made better I think, in a WordPress kind of way (show albums, yes/no). 7. Perhaps the option for a 'homepage' within Plogger that would show the most recently added images within the gallery. PloggerPress for WordPress already could do that, but not from within Plogger.
These are very personal wishes. Even without them I think I will be using Plogger. That said... what was I thinking about when I said that Plogger was almost perfect? :);)....
