    I am not getting Cruft-Free URLs even I have put "On" for Generate Cruft-Free URLs (requires mod_rewrite) - option in Options tab. I have checked with .htaccess file. The .httaccess rewrite rule is generated in that file.

    http://www.netgana.com/p3/?level=album&id=4

    - I have run in same host plogger 2.1 in different path - there Cruft- Free Urls is working. (http://www.netgana.com/actress/tamil_actress_photos/).

    Any idea why it is not working for Beta 3 (dev)?.

    Please help.

    I am not getting Cruft-Free URls for my spicy actress section

    http://www.netgana.com/p3/?level=album&id=4

    Which is run by Plogger Beta 3 (dev) version. I have clicked "On" for cruft-free url option in option tab. But it is not effecting. I guess I need to do some other configurations?. I am not sure.

    Cruft urls is working for me other actress section (netgana.com/actress) which is running by Plogger 2.1.

    Why it is not working for plogger 3 Beta (dev)?. Both are installed in same host...

    Please help me to get cruft url for spicy actress section which is running by plogger 3 dev (beta)

    Thanks in advance...

    I'm also having problems with the cruft-free URLs. Clicking the check box in the Options creates an .htaccess file with working redirect instructions, but the links within the site haven't been rewritten. Upon closer look, the check box is de-selected when the Options page is reloaded.

    in beta 3 i believe cruft free is turned off if plogger is placed in sub directories because other scripts like wordpress already modify the rewrite and could cause problems for plogger. look at the file plog-load_config.php for these comments in beta 3.

    What exactly needs to be enabled in plog-load_config.php for this to work?

    Enabling:

    // disable our own cruft-free urls, because the URL has already been processed
    // by WordPress
    $config["use_mod_rewrite"] = 1;

    gives me an infinite looping URL like this:

    http://www.domain.com/photos/carscars/miscellaneouscars

    with Collection "Cars" and Album "Miscellaneous".

    Plogger is located in subdirectory /photos of my site.

    Nice answer legacyb4 but there is a problem. If you check on my site http://atrozfera.to.md/ it shows the cruft-links when you hover the images, but when you click on them it sends to a not found page. I need to turn $config["use_mod_rewrite"] to 0 in order to fix it back.

    So in my case I don't see a solution. what do you sugest?

    HELP!
    I'm having the exact same problem and I have no clue why! Esp. since it's been working perfectly for many months and now all of a sudden the box seems to have unchecked itself, I don't think I have changed a thing in the plogger installation recently (a beta 3 dev version).

    I looked in that plog-load_config.php file, and found embedded = 1 and cruft-free = 0. When I changed that to 0 and 1 I did get the cruft-free urls, but they'd go crazy when I continued to click on other links within the collections or albums :( The whole line would stay and the new info (album or file name) would be added so it didn't make sense anymore. For now I've changed those settings back to 1 and 0.

    Please help me... Since I installed Wordpress and Plogger (WP in the root of www.wobben.org and Plogger in /gallery - not connected except for normal links and same looking layout) in March or so, I have transferred years of old posts and pics from previous services and gallery software... I've used the cruft-free urls for months without any problems so I've used them for my links in all these posts....... they're all screwed now :(
  1.
    I'm also getting the endless recursion in the URL. For the Sitka album under the Alaska collection, I might get something like this:
    http://www.mysite.com/photos/alaska/glacierbayalaskaalaska/glacierbayalaska/miscellaneousalaska/sitka

    I too have Plogger sitting in a subdirectory but I'm not using WordPress. Is there a simple hack to either the htaccess file or the plog-load_config.php file to fix this - I want to transfer all my albums to Plogger but I don't want to lose my Google-friendly urls.
  2.
    I just fixed this I think:

    If you have Plogger operating in a sub-directory (but are not using some type of application like WordPress), simply comment out the if statement around line 36 in the plog-load_config.php file so that line 42 can operate properly:
    $config["baseurl"] = "http://".$_SERVER["HTTP_HOST"]. substr($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"],0,strrpos($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"],"/")) . "/";

    So the whole section will now look like this:
    /*if (dirname(__FILE__) != dirname(realpath($_SERVER["PATH_TRANSLATED"])) && strpos($_SERVER["PATH_TRANSLATED"],"admin") === false) {
    $config["embedded"] = 1;
    // disable our own cruft-free urls, because the URL has already been processed
    // by WordPress
    $config["use_mod_rewrite"] = 1;
    } else {*/
    $config["baseurl"] = "http://".$_SERVER["HTTP_HOST"]. substr($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"],0,strrpos($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"],"/")) . "/";
    //}

    latristesse, i have the same problem.
    I try to explain it there-> http://plogger.org/forum/discussion/1455/my-gallery-and-a-problem-with-modrewrite/
    I have plogger install on the root directory. How cant i get non-recursive URLs?
    I need help, please :)

    Thanks a lot.
  3.
    Follow the steps I outlined above and that should work. Just comment out the following line in plog-load_config.php:
    $config["baseurl"] = "http://".$_SERVER["HTTP_HOST"]. substr($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"],0,strrpos($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"],"/")) . "/";
    Thankful People: pipeline
